An attic fan is designed to bring air through windows at the main living area so would not do any good for an upstairs.
We have the same problem. Is your attic vented? We set a fan at the bottom of the steps to blow cool air up and then have another at the top to blow it through the room. We also have a portable swamp cooler.

Started on the clarinet, but switched to oboe. Played it for years before I discovered how much I didn't enjoy it. Wanted to play sax, but couldn't find one cheap, so I played flute for a while (same fingerings), but not a good fit. Then I discovered the string bass and LOVE IT!!!
I can play most woodwinds a little. I can play a scale on any of the strings. I can play keyboard a little, but not much. I wish I was good on a pipe organ.
I've wanted to play trombone since I was a child. I practiced on it for a while, but never got very far. Also practiced on a baritone and enjoyed that. Wish I could play timpani.
I took one lesson on bagpipes (hey, I'm good on oboe, so this should be a cinch, no?) and learned that it's one WEIRD instrument! I threw in the towel fast!
No desire for guitar.
I read music, so singing is easy, but my ear is too critical to think my voice is worth hearing. I'd rather accompany someone else with my bass.

The reason they designed Launchcast this way has to do with royalty payments to the record companies. The royalties are a lot lower for a radio-like service versus a music-on-demand service.
Yahoo had a music-on-demand service that WOULD let you play whatever you want. It was called Yahoo Music Unlimited, but they recently sold it to Rhapsody.
Your best shot at hearing the most Shakira is to go to her main artist page at music.yahoo.com and play the "fan" radio station set up for her. It should play music "similar" to Shakira, based on the ratings of people who like Shakira.

what kind of wood is it? If you can't answer that don't do it your self. if it is a veiner on partical board or fiber board throw it away and buy another if it is an antique take it to a restoration expert. I would go to an woodworkers store buy a peice of drop of that kind of wood cut out a plug glue in another peice and then match the color stain. but baring expert workmanship min wax makes wax crayons that will match just about every color rub it in place then polish with a clean cotton cloth hard and fast enough to melt the wax
